Introduction

A computer is defined as an electronic data processing machine. It receives and stores large amount of information and process them at a high speed according to the given instructions.

Apple computer was the first successful micro computer developed by steeve jobs and steeve wolzniak in 1977.

Depending upon the hardware features like microprocessor used, memory capacity, secondary storage devices, processing speed etc., the computers are classified as follows.

• PC or Personal computer

• PC-XT or personal computer with extended Technology.

• PC-AT or personal computer with advance technology.

Background

In august 11, 1981 IBM Corporation introduced its first Pc. This project was completed by a team of IBM engineers named as group 13. It operates on +5v power supply. It has two operating modes namely minimum mode and maximum mode. It has no hard disk.

Features;

1.      It used Intel 8088 cpu at 4.77 MHz

2.      It has 16-bit ALU and registers.

3.      It has 8-Bit data bus and 20-bit address bus.

4.      It has 63.5 watts power supply

5.      It has socket  for 8087 co-processor

6.      It supports DMA controlled data teraserver

7.      It has 14 inch monochrome display

8.      It has 81 keys keyboard

9.      It has one or two floppy disk drivers of 360kb capacity.

10.  It uses 640 Kb RAM…..
